Question :How Does a city position on the earth affect the occurrence of seasons?
D-SET: I claim that a city`s position on the earth does affect the order of the seasons.I claim this because if you see in the graph above you see that Atlanta Georgia Increases & then decreases in a extreme while in Rio De Janeiro it increases, decreases and it increases again. During the months of January and February in Atlanta you see that it is decreased because its winter while if you see in Rio De Janeiro During January and February you see is summer because the temperatures are increased. Also if you Look at Rio De Janeiro during the months Of June,July, & August you`ll see that its winter in that time because their temperatures decrease while in Atlanta during this 3 months its summer because you see the temperatures increasing. This shows that a city`s position on the earth does affect the order of the seasons.
Question: How Does a city`s position on the earth affect the occurrence of seasons?
Hypothesis/ I predict: I predict that while the earth rotates and the sun faces a certain area of the earth the other parts of the earth would be going through the seasons of Fall and winter.
D-set :The tilt of the earth affects the temperature distribution by every time it rotates the sun faces a certain part of the earth , When this happens the other parts of the earth have only have a small shadow of the sun or sometimes none . I know this because if you see the temperatures on the graph you will see that the temperatures of New York city near the sun and the temperatures of New York City away from the sun differ. New york city temperatures when its near the sun it is around the 80 - 85 degrees Fahrenheit, but when its away from the sun its temperatures are around the 70 degrees Fahrenheit. If you also compare the Equator temperatures (which was near the sun) and New York Cities temperatures ( away) from the sun you will also see that their is a difference. That the Equator has Higher temperatures than New York City Away.
-How does the earth`s tilt lead to warmer temperatures during the summer months? _ The earth`s tilt leads to warmer temperatures during the summer months because the earth is rotating and when it rotates it leads to a certain part of the earth which will be facing the sun.
-How would seasonal patterns be different if the Earth were not tilted? _ Seasonal pattern will be much different if the earth weren't tilted and didn't rotate because then the whole world will have the same season and the temperatures really wouldn't change. For Example: If Dominican Republic had summer and New York: had winter and the earth weren't tilted then we would have the same temperature always.
- Describe two advantages and two disadvantages of using models to explain the reason for the seasons?
Advantages :
- It helps us see how the earth tilting affects our temperatures. - It gives us data to collect and to do the experiment
Disadvantages :
-Is that we don't know how big the sun is and we measured it with a Light Bulb (Lamp) which is centimeters smaller than the sun .
- That we were only 8 inches away from the sun while in reality we are miles apart from the sun.
